Majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine And Animal Biosciences, Minoring in Medical Humanities
University of Delaware, Class of 2015
From Elkton, MD
I am a graduate of the University of Delaware and I am looking for a position in the poultry industry working in either the Hatchery or Live Production. I am an excellent candidate for this position because I love working with people and animals, and I love to travel. I am enthusiastic about the proper welfare of animals and I would enjoy working as a team to uphold company standards to optimize income as well as product. ........................... Having a Degree of BS in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Animal Biosciences and a Minor in Medical Humanities gives me a unique advantage when it comes to working in live production because I have a veterinary background and a deeper understanding and training of the physiology of the bird. My experience with animals comes from professional, educational, and personal experience, but mostly volunteer work. I have been volunteering with poultry related experiments at UD, overseen by Professor Bob Alphin since 2012 and have gained experience both in and out of the lab through tasks such as necropsies and handling NDV in the biosecurity level 3 lab. I have owned small backyard flocks of Rhode Island Reds and most recently fostered a flock of Bantams, so I can recognize chicken health and behaviors very easily. ...................................What also makes me unique is that I have worked all through college in diverse positions and gained invaluable experience. As of right now, I have over 5 years of experience working in customer service with about one year of leadership experience in my current position with the Apple Authorized Campus Store at Barnes & Noble as well as leadership experience from living in the dorms and being a floor and building representative. I enjoy being a leader in my classes as well and was a Teachers Assistant (TA) for a 200-level microbiology lab course during Fall 2014 and in Spring 2015 I was a TA for a 300-level genetics lab course. .................................Overall, I'm an experienced lab worker and pet supervisor, I'm proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, I can work under a lab hood safely and operate pipets, needles, incubators, and I am conversant in Spanish.
