Internship with 4 African elephants for 8 weeks. Duties include cleaning and preparing barn and pastures, preparing diet, fecal samples, collecting browse, aiding in elephant training, footwork, baths, husbandry, and moving between enclosures, as well as all other needed tasks such as handfeeding during vet work at appropriate times. Also aided in animal encounter experiences for the public. Also participated in a small amount of cross training in the carnivore department.

Volunteer work/Internship at a private game reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Duties consisted of game monitoring including identification, ethograms, collection of feces, visual inspection of animals’ wellbeing, and night patrols for poaching deterrence and monitoring. Activities also included enclosure cleaning at Born Free Foundation and the animal rehabilitation center and deconstruction of lion bomas. Other duties included removal of old fencing and invasive plants. Weekends involved community work.
