Justin Effendi

Majored in Aerospace Engineering
Georgia Institute of Technology, Class of 2025
From Roswell, GA
I am a recent M.S. Aerospace Engineering graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology as of May 2025. I also graduated in December 2023 with my bachelor's in computer science student with an aerospace engineering minor from Georgia Tech. While on campus, I was involved in the Yellow Jacket Space Program, Chorale, the Georgia Tech Glee Club, Chamber Choir, Baptist Christian Ministry, and the Blueprint Yearbook Club among others. In addition, I was involved in various research opportunities in liquid propellant sloshing in SSDL with Dr. Alvaro Romero-Calvo and applied machine learning for educational robotics with the NASA ML-Bots program with Dr. Kelly Griendling. During that time, I was a co-author on a conference paper regarding the development of an open-source propellant sloshing analysis tool called SLOSH-ML, which I helped develop while in SSDL. I want to enter the space industry working on GNC, flight dynamics, or modeling & simulation, and in doing so help further humanity's endeavors in space exploration with the power of code.

Open-Source Propellant Sloshing Modeling and Simulation
In February 2024, I co-authored a paper regarding SLOSH-ML, which is an open-source propellant sloshing analysis GUI tool created in MATLAB that I led a sub-team of 7 people to create. The software is based on SLOSH-XL, a Microsoft Excel VBA program created by F.T. Dodge in 2005, and the program is able to give eigenvalues and natural frequencies for a tank in specified conditions. It can also graphically produce sloshing modes (up to 3 sloshing modes) and spring-mass representations of the sloshing dynamics in said tank, as well as perform parametric analysis over a range of g values, filling ratios, and times. This paper was published in February 2024 for the 2024 Rocky Mountain AAS Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Conference in Breckinridge, Colorado.
