Jonathan Skee

Student at Grove City College majoring in Political Science, minoring in Marketing
I'm a junior political science major and marketing minor at Grove City College who is aspiring to be a marketing and/or development intern with a think tank that champions the conservative cause. I am a Marketing Fellow at the Institute for Faith and Freedom (formerly called the Center for Vision and Values), a small think tank on campus, and a student of the Forge Mentorship Academy, an organization which identifies and trains young conservative leaders. I am looking to put my experience and passion to work full time upon graduation.

Technology Student Association
As a member, I competed in technology-related events at the regional, state, and national levels. Some of the events I competed in included Architectural Renovation, Debating Technological Issues, Computer-Aided Design 2D Architecture, Essays on Technology, and Extemporaneous Speech." For Architectural Renovation, I had to design a house to meet the needs of a fictitious owner by creating blueprints, designing a scale model, and writing reports about the process. My team came in 1st in the state in 2016 and 8th in the country in 2015. As President, one of the challenges I faced was ensuring the longevity of the chapter. Its founders all graduated the prior year, leaving me to essentially rebuild the chapter from the ground up. Not only did the club continue; it also inducted its largest membership ever: 51 members. I was also able to raise almost $1,000 to help members afford to attend the competitions.

In part because of our efforts, my school received accreditation from MSA.
Winter 2012-2013 - Spring 2017 - Lehigh Valley Academy
Student Council
I led approx. Student Council 30 members. I helped fundraise thousands of dollars for student activities and events for my peers. I got involved in Student Council because, since our school was so young, we didn't have many of the school spirit and extracurricular offerings that other public schools had and I wanted to change that. Some of the events I organized included Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraisers, spirit weeks, Minute-to-Win-It competitions, door-decorating contests, off-campus pep rallies, intra-school kickball tournaments, after-school hangouts, school dances, and school clubs.

Political Science Research Methods Term Paper
This quantitative research project investigated the question of to what extent the economic well-being of voters impacts their likelihood of voting in general elections in the United States. Rational choice theory was used an a theoretical framework to address this question. The existing literature was examined to determine that this topic needed further research. Data was provided by the 2013 American National Election Survey. I analyzed the relationship in the data by utilizing descriptive statistics, bivariate modelling, and measures of association. I initially hypothesized that a decrease in economic well-being would increase likelihood of voting, but models showed that there is actually no significant relationship between the two variables. I conclude by exploring policy implications of this research. I received an A on this paper.
