February, 02 2017 - Verified by University of New HampshireI am an Assistant Teacher for the Owl Camp, which is a summer school program provided by Title 1 for elementary students to gain additional practice in math, reading, writing, and STEM.
I was a student intern through various classes in major at UNH, specifically HDFS 635 and HDFS 709. I spent my time helping the lead teachers in the classroom throughout the day, implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans, building relationships with children, developing techniques for classroom management, and overall learning how to become an early childhood educator. I spent 5 hours a week in the Nursery 2 program each week during the spring 2018 semester, and I spent 10 hours a week in the Preschool 1 program each week during the fall 2018 semester. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the CSDC and learned a lot about myself as a future teacher from these experiences.
I substitute in all different classrooms, from general education classes to related arts and special education programs, in grades preschool through 8th grade.
I helped create a fun learning environment for the campers each week. We taught them fun and safe ways to handle pets, played animal-themed games, and worked on projects to promote and encourage the adoption of the animals in the shelter through videos and posters.
I was responsible for creating a safe and fun environment for the children at the summer daycare program. I worked with children ages 3-12.
I tutored and helped the students with their homework, and assisted in running various clubs and activities. This was part of the district's 21C After-school Program that ran everyday after school. I worked with kids in grades 3-5.
