Student at Northampton Community College majoring in Early Childhood Education: Infant to Grade 4
Im Katie McLain; an occasional blogger, a mom, a pre-school teacher at Wee Care Day School, part-time student at Northampton Community College, and a pastors wife to Jeff McLain. I am a functional introvert, incurable movieholic, local enthusiast, and beach-life junkie blogging my discoveries of simplicity and purpose in my adventures of life, family, and mission.
Our family consists of three energetic daughters and a hodgepodge of pets. We love investing in our neighborhood and living in the emerging main street community of East Petersburg, PA. My husband is the Lead Pastor at East Petersburg Mennonite Church, a church community that is learning to live and love like Jesus. Were focused on discipling locally, to influence regionally, and proclaim globally.
Though Im Californian by birth, Im Pennsylvania by choice. I was born in the Imperial Valley deserts of El Centro. When I was three years old, my family moved to the picaresque sunsets of Orange County California. There I was raised in Fountain Valley, a small community right next to Huntington Beach, four miles from the sand and surf. I loved Golden Spoon ice cream, Rubys on the Pier and bonfires on the beach. However, growing up I also enjoyed vacations to Pennsylvania to visit family. So, after graduating from Fountain Valley High School, I decided to experience life away from all I knew and to study at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster County.
I fell in love at first sight with more than just Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania, I met Jeff McLain in the Lyndon Diner when he saw me sitting at a table. He approached me, introduced himself, and the rest as we like to say is history. We dated as Jeff spent time touring and traversing the country and as I moved home to study through Vanguard University. It didnt take me long to realize that I wanted to marry Jeff and make our home on the East Coast.
Our marriage has really been an adventure. Since getting married, we have lived in several states, toured the country with organizations, worked with bands, been involved in concert promoting and more. Certainly, the greatest and most fulfilling adventure we have had together was starting a family. Ironically, as a Pastors kid I had thought the life I had married into would include everything but church ministry, but that is exactly where it has led.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it. If you are going to be hanging around, I invite you to introduce yourself in the comments below or by contacting me.
