Katie Greibesland

Miami University , Class of 2019
From Staten Island, N.Y.
Working with animals has been second-nature for me since the moment I graduated college. After a time working as a veterinary assistant, where I got a taste of raising baby squirrels and kittens and caring for injured wildlife, I moved on to my current position at Animal Care Centers. Being the Placement Liaison here has given me the kind of responsibilities I thrive on, a high-stakes position that involves coordinating with different departments, outside organizations, as well as directly with the public. In the summer of 2016, I began a Master's program with Miami University and the Wildlife Conservation Society, which is hybrid online and on-site at the Bronx Zoo! This program is immersing me in inquiry-based science and conservation work, and I have been thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to study large predators, spatial ecology, and habitat conversion. In the summer of 2017, I will be taking my first conservation expedition to Namibia to visit the Cheetah Conservation Fund. My free time is largely occupied by my west highland terrier, Aspen, and my black cat, Juniper. I look forward to connecting with you!
