Killean Murray

Member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
From Fresno, California
Growing up, education has always been a priority and passion in my life. As a child and adolescent, school was my escape and safe space from my hectic household. Because of my love for education, I plan to apply what I have learned in school and use it to help others. I am currently enrolled in California State University, Fresno's Teaching Credential Program, and I plan to earn both a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential and a Single-Subject English Teaching Credential. With these credentials, I plan to help the students of Fresno, California fall in love with education, as I have.

Embedded English Tutor (PASS Leader) at Fresno City College

To prepare for my teaching career, I began working at Fresno City College as an English tutor in the PASS Program since January of 2014. This job assigns me to specific English and EMLS (English for Multi Language Speakers) courses at Fresno City College, and it requires me to attend every class session, to lead both one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for the students enrolled in the class, and to keep constant communication with the assigned instructor. Not only do I host in-person tutoring sessions on the campus, but I also tutor students using online tutoring. With this position, I help students with all stages of the writing process, and I also help students build their reading comprehension skills. Because the PASS Center is a holistic center, it focuses on all of the students' basic needs. Not only does the PASS Program provide tutoring in writing and reading comprehension, but it also provides students with free brain food, free printing, and free school supplies. Being involved in this program has given me invaluable skills working with a variety of students from various backgrounds, and it has only enhanced my passion for education.
