Key Club
My transition from a relatively small middle school to a high school double its size was a huge change. I knew I wanted to become involved in my new school and serve my community, but I didnt know what option was best for me. I wanted to join National Honor Society because I was a member of National Junior Honor Society in middle school, but only juniors and seniors were applicable for membership. Also, due to the Life Science Academy (which began before school Monday through Thursday at OCTC) I could not attend many of the clubs meetings. As I was walking through the club fair, I decided to join Key Club because it met on Friday mornings. Key Club International is part of Kiwanis International and focuses on volunteer service. Every year, I participate in Thanksgiving drives, Rake-n-Runs, The Eliminate Project donation collection (for Kiwanis), and many other events (including monthly club meetings) to serve people at a local and international level. I am thankful for this club because I have made connections which have allowed me to further serve my community. I also received the honor of being elected the Treasurer of Key Club for my 11th grade year. I work with our teacher sponsor to decide what endeavors we should invest in and help complete the necessary paperwork. I am looking forward to holding a higher office position for my senior year. This club has allowed me to serve my community and meet many other students who share the same passion for service as I do.
