Lauren Petrillo
I am a determined, passionate individual who seeks different ways to help people, primarily by means of health care.
I served as an athletic trainer for two years where I enjoy taking my time with my patients to help them understand their bodies and injuries. I was also an EMT and a dispatcher, where my health care exposure introduced me to countless of scenarios with patients and the community, each of which I learned how vital it is to recognize how everyone reacts/responds differently; with that said I am a big believer in patient-centered care.
At the end of my undergraduate career, I realized that I there were too many questions left unanswered by my peers and patients, thus I sought a higher level of education to find new ways to better the field of health care, especially with the drastic changes that are taking effect with the United States' PPACA.
Between my clinical experiences and educational guidance I will help find ways to make our health care system more efficient, both clinically and administratively. Now, I have returned to school to expand my clinical and interpersonal skills through nursing, a vast and respectable field that I strongly believe will help me advance in my clinical, personal, and ethical endeavors. In doing so, I hope to experience a greater understanding of people's perception of health care and to pursue an ideal method to expand my patient's and communities' understanding of health care. Thus through these experiences I intend on making my efforts target everyone - clinicians, administration, politics, and the communities/patients. With that said, I would love to see the concept of health care as a team-based system (including the said targets), to define our future in medicine.
On a personal note, I played field for 18 years, coaching for 6 of those years, and I do hope to get back into it. I also acted as a volunteer coach for my high school tennis team from 2008-2011. I love to learn new things, especially when they pertain to the human body and health care. I like to stay as active as possible, joining a few groups on campus and trying to reach out the community. Finally, my husband is presently a Doctor of Osteopathy student of the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University. We have met some wonderful people along the way and I cannot wait to work with them in the future.

BBQ Club
This is a fun, "lets kick back and enjoy ourselves" club where we meet throughout the year and learn some classic BBQ and smoker recipes. This is an amazing way to take a break from the studying, cook up a storm, and, occasionally, serve the communities.
We prepare food for the DCOM White Coat Ceremony and for spring graduations.
