I received the Award for Excellence in Internship - Nutrition / Health Food Chief from my internship coordinator- Mrs. Cynthia Gill. She is an inspiration to me because she not only survived breast, colon and lymph node cancer, but she is thriving to this day. During my senior year she was my "experiment" because I advised her to try certain exercises and I made her healthy, gourmet meals. I'm so proud of how far she has come and that she is no longer a pre-diabetic.

I received the Certificate of Participation in the Humanities Academy - Communication Pathway. Below is a picture of me giving my 10-minute long capstone project speech on "Improving Nutritional Awareness at Northwood High School." Also, I worked with other girls in the academy doing health-related capstone projects. Then, on May 1 we volunteered at the health fair to present information from our projects- which included my painting of the alphabet of fruits and vegetables.

When I was captain of the varsity Field Hockey team it was an honor to help coach new players, and it was a learning experience in that it made me a better player as well. By the end of the season, I was awarded the Coaches Award because I tried my hardest in every game that I played.

At my high school, I made the honor roll every year and the principal's list for four quarters. I was also a member of the Northwood Ambassadors' Club, secretary of the National Honor Society, a participant of the Spanish Language Ambassadors Club and a member of the Fashion Club. The picture below displays a service activity I initiated while in the National Honor Society to give children in local homeless shelters hand-made birthday cards.

In the Fashion Club, we made and sold jewelry to students and learned about the evolution of fashion throughout history. Also, we held a fashion show in the cafeteria one day during lunch from our own original pieces of clothing.
