Checker, Shelf Stocker, Meat Clerk, and Courtesy Clerk at Hy-Vee

When I was a Checker, my job was to interact with customers and check out the items that they wanted to buy and then bag it for them. When I worked as a Courtesy Clerk, the job ranged from bagging peoples food to cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the trash, bringing the carts back into the building and helping out where we are needed. As a Shelf Stocker, I would work primarily in the back of the store and take stuff out of the boxes that they are shipped in and go out and stock the shelves. This sometimes means that a customer would stop a stocker and ask for help and that was another part of the job. As a meat clerk, I work behind the meat counter and either cut meat, prepare different dishes, wrap meat for customers or stock the meat counter.

Detasseler at Ailes Detasseling

A detasseler's job is to wake up early in the morning, meet everyone at a bus pickup site. Then, go out into the field and walk down row by row and pull the tassels off of each cornstalk. Cornrows are typically a half a mile down, but can sometimes be a mile in length.
