Lillian Harris
From Atlanta, Ga.
As a high achiever, I was selected by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities as a 2014 HBCU All-Star Student. HBCU All-Star students serve as ambassadors of the White House to support initiatives from President Obama such as “My Brother’s Keeper,” the “Affordable Care Act” and the “College Completion Goal." Highlighting other accomplishments, I was noted as an Honor Teacher by the Atlanta Journal, published articles in the Science Teacher Magazine and the Education Review Journal, and received the first NASA Explorer School grant in Georgia which awarded my middle school funds and a lifetime partnership with NASA. Additionally, I co-authored the 21st Century Community Learning Grant, earning my school $1.3 million dollars to improve math and science.
My work often extends beyond the school district as I am a full-time doctoral candidate studying Educational Leadership at Clark Atlanta University, I volunteer as the Educational Director for M3 Music Foundation, and I volunteer in other areas related to education at Imhotep Academy. Much of my volunteer work involves individualized support for students and their college and career post-secondary options. As a leader, I present at educational forums for my HBCU and I am the 2014 - 2015 President of the Educational Leadership Student Association at Clark Atlanta. Overall, I demonstrate passion and dedication to my own education as well as to the students I serve as I instill in them the meaning of the Phi Kappa Phi motto, "Let the love of learning rule humanity."
