Louisa Torrance, MS candidate, holds a B.S. in Biology (Marine and Freshwater) from the University of Texas at Austin. She was recently appointed as a Texas State Park Ambassador for Mustang Island State Park and will become instated as a South Texas Master Naturalist in the Fall of 2018. She has served in numerous roles within professional societies and was awarded a Student Scholarship Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (2017-2018). She currently serves as the Southern Division Representative and the Continuing Education Committee Student Representative for the American Fisheries Society.
Her portfolio includes experience in education, scientific writing, project management, and statistical analysis. Her expertise in education comes from four years a middle school science teacher, three years as Science Department Chair, and two years as a graduate teaching assistant at the university level. As a graduate student, she gained proficiency with GIS, the program R, and fisheries management techniques. She also gained field experience with Texas Parks and Wildlife personnel in the Coastal Fisheries division while completing her thesis.
