Luke Farrell

Majored in Higher Educ Ldrshp& Policy Std
Hofstra University, Class of 2027
From Halesite, NY
I will be starting as a Graduate Resident Director of the Graduate Residence Hall at Hofstra University in July of 2023, while getting my Masters of Science in Education in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies. Higher education has been a passion of mine ever since I had been able to utilize my various roles in Admissions, Orientation, and Residence Life to help impact students and provide them with the best experience and transition into higher learning as possible. I will be looking to use my Masters degree to provide proper leadership and guidance to student leaders much like I was in my undergraduate time at Hofstra. I have the pleasure of serving as the President of the Higher Education Graduate Association (HEGSA), which provides various professional development, leadership, and networking opportunities for those looking to have careers in the various facets of higher education. In my undergraduate studies at Hofstra, I made the Dean's List every semester, and was inducted into Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology in May of 2021, as well as The Phi Beta Kappa Society in May of 2023. I also served as a a producer for the Hofstra Morning Wake-Up Call, as well as a mentor to prospective members of the station, giving them the tools and skills they need to succeed. In my previous capacities, I have served as both an Orientation Leader and a Head Orientation Leader as part of Orientation & New Student Programming, which included organization of the staff duty schedule, monitoring staff morale, and running the weekly staff meetings at the end of every orientation week to assess any improvements and staff feedback on the program. As a Pride Guide, I had provided over 100 tours to prospective students and their families, as well as taking part in special events such as admitted students days, open houses, and other events. As a Senior Resident Assistant, I work alongside the Resident Director to help facilitate weekly staff meetings, as well as provide guidance and mentorship to the 10 resident assistants that comprise the building. I also supervised over 20 students every year and coordinated programming for community bonding. In my spare time, I do not like long walks on the beach, but enjoy playing badminton, listening to good music, and doing crosswords.

Luke Farrell was recognized for earning an academic award
American Legion Citizenship Award Defined by the American Legion as: "The purpose of this medal is to reinforce the core values that is expected of the good citizen in todays society as reflected by our forefathers. For the youth of today, the ideals of good citizenship are respect for those in authority (elders, parents, teachers, law enforcement, etc.) and respect for other citizens of all races and creed. Citizenship also is helping others in need, sharing what one can afford to share, help and guide those in need. Respect for country is inherent in the good citizen, yet tolerance for those that immigrate and strive to become good Americans through honest effort and sacrifice should be accepted."

This project was conducted by myself, fellow Huntington Senior Kaitlyn Sage and Chairperson of Humanities at Huntington Mr. Joseph Leavy to commemorate Theodore Roosevelt's July 4th visit to the Town of Huntington to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of it's founding. After countless research and hard work, we were able to erect an historical marker for the Town of Huntington to preserve that historical event. Video of the ceremony along with a press release and marker inscription are highlighted below.
