Mitchell Schwartz

Majored in Law
Hofstra University, Class of 2028
From Flower Hill, NY
Mitchell Morgan Schwartz (history & geography major; pre-law) has lived in the Village of Flower Hill, NY for his entire life, and has always been obsessed with history and geography. When he was in elementary school, he would get distracted by his "Maps, Globes, & Graphs" workbook, whether it be through going ahead of the lesson, tracing over the maps or creating his own, or even just reading through it. Schwartz's love for history, geography, maps, and research became evident when he published a website, www.mappinglidisparities.com in 2019. This website utilizes interactive maps to educate and explain the socioeconomic disparities across each of Long Island's neighborhoods, school districts, congressional districts, and legislative districts in a fully bipartisan manner. Schwartz currently serves as the Village Historian of the Incorporated Village of Flower Hill and as Vice-Chairman of the Village of Flower Hill Landmarks Preservation Commission. He also serves as a Trustee of the Roslyn Landmark Society the local historical society for the Roslyn, NY area. Schwartz graduated from Roslyn High School in June of 2020. He is on a pre-law track and is studying to become an infrastructure lawyer.

Appointed government position. Like most other positions within Flower Hill's government, this is an unpaid, volunteer position; the Village Historian(s) is/are appointed by the Board of Trustees.

As Village Historian, I am responsible for documenting and researching the history of the Village of Flower Hill and making it more accessible to the public.

Some of my work includes the creation of the Flower Hill Historic Trail in 2021 a network of seven local history-themed walking tours of Flower Hill; with all routes combined, it includes over 100 stops and is roughly 50 miles long. I have also digitized and archived many of our historic documents (including plats/surveys, incorporation papers, and various other historic documents, etc.) and creating a database for them, ensuring their efficient preservation and accessibility.
