September, 30 2020 - Verified by Hofstra UniversityAppointed government position. As is the case with all other municipal commissions in Flower Hill, this position is uncompensated and volunteer-based. My responsibilities on this commission include working with my fellow commissioners, holding public hearings and executive sessions, and, through resolution with my fellow commissioners, ultimately making recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding whether a structure or site within the Village should be considered for landmarking, whether surveys should be made pertaining to the Village's historic assets, etc.
Through this unpaid, volunteer position, I along with the other Trustees am tasked with ensuring that Roslyn's local, nonprofit historical society stays strong and true to its mission: preserving the history of the Roslyn community for many generations to come. I participate in, and am the chair of, the Education Committee; this committee strives to encourage fellow members of our community especially our youth to enjoy and be passionate about our local history and heritage.
Through this internship, I was able to dive deep into what it is like to work in the legal world. Some of my tasks included conducting legal research, assist in making calls, interacting with clients, and to write draft summonses, demands, letters of good faith, etc.
Appointed government position. Like most other positions within Flower Hill's government, this is an unpaid, volunteer position; the Village Historian(s) is/are appointed by the Board of Trustees.
As Village Historian, I am responsible for documenting and researching the history of the Village of Flower Hill and making it more accessible to the public.
Some of my work includes the creation of the Flower Hill Historic Trail in 2021 a network of seven local history-themed walking tours of Flower Hill; with all routes combined, it includes over 100 stops and is roughly 50 miles long. I have also digitized and archived many of our historic documents (including plats/surveys, incorporation papers, and various other historic documents, etc.) and creating a database for them, ensuring their efficient preservation and accessibility.
