I was born and raised in the Philippines, and I was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi in 2008 after graduating from the University of the Philippines in 2007 with a BA in Creative Writing, magna cum laude. I went on to teach at the University of the Philippines in Los Banos before earning my MFA in Writing from the University of Texas at Austin as a James A. Michener Fellow, and my PhD in Creative Writing from the Victoria University of Wellington on a Victoria Doctoral Scholarship. My fiction, nonfiction, and poetry have appeared in numerous publications, including failbetter, the Masters Review, Day One, Another Chicago Magazine, Vice, and Aotearotica, among other places. My creative work has also been recognized with residencies from Hedgebrook in Washington State and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska. I have recently finished a novel and story collection, and I am working on a second story collection and a collection of essays.
