An architect and computational design specialist, Mostafa is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities at Clemson University, funded by HCED scholarships. He holds a Masters in Building Technology from the University of Science, Malaysia (2009), and a B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Technology, Iraq (2006). Mostafa is a LEED Green Associate with a specialized certification of digital ecology from College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities Clemson University. He also served as the director of the Projects Division at Aliraqia University in 2011. He was awarded first prize by the governorate of Baghdad in a design competition to reimagine the Baghdad Entrance Gates in 2010. In addition, he participated in a design team in an international competition run by the Ministry of Housing to design economic housing in 2011, achieving fourth place. Mostafas main research interest lies in the intersection of computational design, digital fabrication, and responsive architecture that is aimed at improving the built environment. His research studies have been published at the CAADRIA, CAADfutures, ASCAAD, and ARCC conferences. He also won the first place research award at the Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium, Clemson University, 2016. Mostafas areas of expertise are geometric patterns, parametric design, architectural robotics, and photo-realistic visualization. Currently, he is pursuing research that is focused on the computational nature of Islamic geometric patterns, in the course of which a new mathematical definition of the morphology of historic models has been developed.
