Skin Deep: An Interaction Discussion about Colorism within the Black Community
I created an interactive discussion called Skin Deep. It was held on February 26th, 2018. The objective of this event was to explore the disadvantages of having dark skin within society as it relates to dating, the job market, the criminal justice system, and media representation. When we have this discussion, many times it can be superficial. My desire is to push the conversation forward in order to amplify the voices of an underrepresented intersection within the Black community: darker skinned men and women. The overall goal is to understand white supremacy's influence and work to dismantle it within our community.

USG Teaching and Learning Conference: Leap and Learn: Get Out and Go Deep
This presentation is based on the application of LEAP principles in the college classroom setting. My students and I will discuss how implementing LEAP practices helped them to connect to school, community and work, and led to inquiry, analysis, discovery, and problem solving, while emphasizing personal and social responsibility. My classes are based on experiential learning because that is where students and I discover more about the field of study, ourselves and the community. Seeds of inquiry germinated through the practice of field trips, guest speakers, research and analysis. In an Area B Perspectives course, students looked at Immigration and Incarceration through a variety of lenses to make sense of complex issues that are traditionally looked at through the lens of a singular discipline, if at all. Attendees will learn a variety of strategies designed to embrace LEAP principles in the classroom setting. I attended on April 6th, 2018 at the University of Georgia.
