Nyasaina Kwamboka

Majored in Economics And Environmental Studies ( Double Major), Minored in Business Administration
Monmouth College, Class of 2023
From Nairobi, Kenya
My Environmental Studies work focuses on energy systems, sustainable development, and the global energy transition. I have contributed to faculty-led research, developing a 10-year carbon-neutral plan for Monmouth College. My primary research concentration was on practical solar solutions, including carports, street lighting, and rooftop installations, while collaborating with external providers to assess feasibility and costs. For my senior science seminar, I am researching geothermal energy as a scalable and economically viable alternative to fossil fuels. With a focus on the United States, I am analyzing large-scale plants such as The Geysers and exploring the potential of geothermal heat pumps in residential and commercial buildings. For environmental politics, my senior research concentration is on international agreements, including the Basel Convention and the Paris Agreement, assessing how global frameworks often fail to address local realities in the Global South. I am passionate about the intersection of economics, policy, and energy. I compete in cross country and long-distance track and field, I have served on Student Senate, worked as a Resident Assistant in Fulton Hall, and I am currently the Resident Director of Bowers Hall. I am also the Lead Intern at the Champion Miller Center. In my free time, I enjoy cycling, reading, and sewing.
