Latoya Wallace

Monroe College, Class of 2017
From St. Peter
After being in the teaching profession for 21 years, I took a bold step to change careers and decided to study something in the hospitality field. I was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI) by the Antigua Hotels and Tourism Association (AHTA) to study Resort Management. In 2015, I graduated with an ASC with highest honours. This accomplishment created an insatiable hunger for higher education, and I decided to research universities. My sights landed on the Culninary Institute at Monroe College, as the Baking and Pastry Arts Program appealed to me. I couldn't choose between this and Hospitality Management, so I decided to do both. Currently, I am sophomore at Monroe, and I am making the most of my tenure here. I am a member of the Hospitality, Baking and Multi Cultural Clubs. I use every opportunity to give back to the most vulnerable in our society by participating in the many volunteering efforts of Monroe, such as food drives, community clean up, providing companionship to the residents of nursing homes and served food at shelters. I am the recipient of scholarship grants from The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, Caribbean Tourism Organisation, Caribbean Hotels and Tourism Association, and Monroe College. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I intend to pursue a graduate degree in Human Resource Management.
