R Hunsicker

I research current issues affecting women and then educate students about these issues through events/displays. I also assist the WMST Program Coordinator (PC) and other student interns with programming, informational campaigns, and putting up posters around campus and in the community. And I serve as a liaison to regular collaborators to the life of the Center, such as LGBTQ Initiatives, HAVEN, ALANA, Shaw Wellness, and COVE .

This semester, I created and run the blog "Unpacking Asexuality: Understanding Community and Relationships where I introduce, promote, and explain issues the asexual community faces and provide resources as a goal to help negate and prevent these issues from occurring or continuing on Colgate's campus through bi-weekly posts. I also organize and host asexual-themed media discussions on documentaries and books for the student body where we discuss both the validating and invalidating experiences of the asexual community within the art form.

I was trained on how to properly disinfect and clean anything as per the CDCs guidelines to ensure
sanitized living and cooking environments for campers. I cleaned the bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, deck and deck furniture of all campground rental RVs to provide well-maintained and hygienic living conditions to campers.

I worked at the ice cream counter, cash register, and cafe. I did basic cleaning in the cafe, family lounge, inside pool, outdoor pool complex, arcade, and deck. I swept and mopped the floors and cleaned the air fryers during closing shifts.

During my internship with the Women's Studies department at Colgate University, I have organized and created a blog dedicated to bringing awareness to the asexual community. This blog focuses on asexual relationships and communal strife by introducing and explaining what makes the community and clarifying what relationships are like with/as an asexual. It also promotes and explains issues the asexual community faces and provides resources as a goal to help negate and prevent these issues from occurring or continuing on Colgate's campus. With bi-weekly posts, it addresses invaliding concepts like college hookup culture and heteronormativity in order to increase the presence the asexual community has throughout the campus.

Through my partnerships with the Women's Studies department, I organized and created a presentation about the asexual community that I presented to the student body through a Zoom lecture. I also created posters and social media posts to encourage asexual awareness on campus during the 2020 Asexual Awareness Week.

A project through Lake George's Diversity Committee. It is an annual festival of food, acts, and art submitted by the students, staff, and the community of Lake George. Events are located in the Auditorium, Cafeteria, and Library (gallery). Its goal is to promote cultural competence and empathy throughout Lake George.
