Be a Biologist: Hands-on Interpretation of Scientific Research
By working with biologists, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida education team was able to transform scientists' field work into an immersive daily program where guests of the nature center got the opportunity to “be a biologist”. With the use of puppets and retired scientific equipment, they were able to give guests experiences similar to biologists tracking Burmese pythons, measuring the health of mangrove trees, sorting through guy contents of invasive toads, and even tagging and drawing blood on endangered sea turtles. The development of this program brought the two worlds of science and education together in an effort to bring science to the community.
