Sanjaya Hettiarachchi

Majoring in Astrophysics
Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Class of 2027
From Fayetteville, Arkansas
I am a PhD graduate student who has a strong passion about Astrophysics, Quantum Physics, Astrobiology, and Astronautics. My research work is mainly based on multiwavelength galactic spiral structure analysis, galaxy evolution, galaxy morphology studies, density wave theory, black hole masses, and dark matter halo masses. Moreover, I develop scaling relations between pitch angle of spiral galaxies and its black hole and dark matter halo masses using multi-wavelength image data.

Theoretical study of density wave theory using pitch angle measurements of spiral galaxies
This research work verified density wave theory predictions using pitch angle measurements corresponding to six wavebands, namely 3.6 μm, 8.0 μm, B-band, Hα, HI, and CO. Black hole and dark matter halo masses were calculated for 3.6 μm waveband. Novel findings and equations were proposed related to galaxies with inner arms only and galaxies with both inner and outer arms.

Scaling relations between pitch angle-black hole mass and pitch angle-dark matter halo mass
Currently investigating the influence of inner and outer arms on the dark matter halo mass and black hole mass of galaxies with both inner and outer arms. More generalized relations between pitch angle-black hole mass and pitch angle-dark matter halo mass are proposed.
