the Chemical Anodization of Reactive Metals
Anodization is a technique that is utilized to create a thin oxide film on the surface of a reactive metal. This process is most commonly used for the protection of metal surfaces. Once a metal has been anodized, the oxide layer can affect some of the characteristics of the metal sample, most notably color. By anodizing a metal at a certain voltage it is possible to manipulate the wavelengths of light reflected or absorbed by the sample.
