USM: Student Printz Article
I started the Sexual Assault Prevention Ambassadors last year, and we have grown from 7 members to 50 in less than a year. In Fall 2018, I was sexually assaulted on campus as a freshman and was heartbroken over it. I wanted to do something about it on campus and had no idea where to go. I did some research and found out there was no student group on campus that had anything to do with sexual assault prevention, so I chartered the organization and got it up and running in February 2018. We are a newer group, but there is a lot that we have done thus far. We are comprised of members of all different backgrounds: male, female, LGBTQ, Greek, athletic, musical, Honors College, Luckyday, all different kinds of people that have the common goal. Last year, our efforts were recognized by the Leadership and Student Initiatives office here on campus, and we won Best New Student Organization of the Year for 2017-2018 and have been growing and developing ever since.
