Samantha Lorandeau

I am a military spouse, residing in southern Alabama with my husband, our dog Paul Anka and our cat Mr. Minx. The four of us have moved several times over the last five years and have been blessed with the opportunity to meet a multitude of people from varying backgrounds and cultures. I took my first sign language class at the community college in my hometown of Sebring, Florida. My goal was simply to take the course to satisfy the foreign language requirement for a high school diploma. During that semester my goal shifted as I became fascinated with the language and culture surrounding the Deaf community. Suddenly I wanted to become more knowledgeable of Deaf Culture and more proficient in American Sign Language. Currently, I possess an Associate in Arts Degree from South Florida State College as well as an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Sign Language Studies from Southwestern Illinois College. Presently, I am pursuing a Bachelor's Degree as an American Sign Language Interpreter student in Troy University's Interpreter Training Program (ITP). Ten years have passed since I took my first American Sign Language course and, still, I could not be more excited to sign my life away! I look forward to a career as an American Sign Language Interpreter. I will use the knowledge and skills obtained during my tenure in the ITP at Troy to prepare me for future endeavors. Upon graduation and the completion of my Bachelors Degree I will become nationally certified. This certification will allow me to utilize the skill and knowledge afforded me by Troy Universitys Interpreter Training Program wherever the military may send us.
