Stephanie Peebles Tavera is a PhD candidate in English and Enhanced Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas of Arlington. She teaches freshman and sophomore Composition and Rhetoric and American literature courses for the Department of English at UT Arlington. In addition, she is the Writing Center Digital Media Coordinator in the UTA Writing Center. Ms. Tavera's current research, scholarship, and dissertation work focuses on late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century American literature, specifically women's medical fiction during the period, and examines the various ways in which these texts call for reproductive health reform and gyncological reform in Victorian medical science practices. She has a recent book chapter on New Materialism in Whitman's Leaves of Grass in an edited collection on nature writing in nineteenth century American literature. Ms. Tavera is the recipient of the prestigious Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc Graduate Research Fellowship, and the University of Texas at Arlington's Graduate Tuition Fellowship, and is on full-scholarship at the university.
