July, 22 2015 - Verified by Saginaw Valley State UniversityWorking at this company helped me acquire many skills needed in the retail experience. Their training agenda has taught me how to work a Point-Of-Sale (POS) for the first time and even how to open/close a register, gain communication methods in helping customers with their needs/assistance (STARS method), properly fold clothing and aid recovery associates, learn constantly about how their discount events and coupons work, and much more. Especially since I was a seasonal worker, learning for this in anticipation for the holidays has helped me gain a better understanding of how to handle stress-inducing work issues in a busy environment.
The responsibility of a hostess/host entails many tasks such as greeting the customers with a friendly presence and determining how many seats are available to assign their preferred eating area. This involves having a broad knowledge/memorization of how the restaurant is set-up as to not make any mistakes such as seating them in an unclean table or a preoccupied one. At some occasions, one must set up a waiting list if service gets too busy, book reservations, organize the waiting podium, and answer phone calls. In rare instances, I had to check restrooms periodically, clean windows, wash menus, folded silverware, and restock napkins and other necessities for the food service. The reason of leaving is preparing for my first year at SVSU.
