Talon Ausbern

Hi, I'm Talon, and I am currently attending South Plains College. My plan is to earn a Pre-Engineering Associate's degree at SPC and then transfer to Texas Tech University to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. While I have always loved sports and being outdoors, my passion is creating and engineering to solve problems. Growing up, my parents consistently encouraged my love for STEM; from the 24-count jigsaw puzzles to my level five Hanayama puzzles and from besting my grandma at Checkers to finding the most efficient route to winning my favorite board game, Scythe, our home has always been filled with a variety of games and puzzles. Birthdays and Christmas brought in 'educational' toys that I fell in love with. When I was ten, my mother bought me the best Christmas present: a book that showed me how to make tiny catapults using office supplies. Eventually, I shifted from Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction to many hours spent with my brother building our GraviTrax into a complicated labyrinth of marble runs. As I grew older, I received my first 3D printer and became fascinated by the process of transforming an idea into reality on a printbed. Now, I love to design and fabricate using my 3D printer and laser engraver. I hope to draw on my upbringing, along with what I learn at South Plains, to help others by addressing challenges in my personal life, community, or on a larger scale.
