Research in Behavioral Neuroscience
As an undergraduate researcher in the Taste and Feeding Lab at the University at Buffalo, I had the opportunity to present my work at UBIB Research Day on behalf of Dr. Ann-Marie Torregrossa. My project focused on the role of salivary amylase (AMY1 gene) in body composition and taste preferences in mice. I designed and conducted experiments examining how varying levels of salivary amylase influenced body mass, composition, and dietary choices, and I analyzed findings that challenged prior human data, particularly in knockout groups. Through this experience, I was able to communicate results to the scientific community and contribute new insights to the field of nutritional genomics.

WiSE student ambassador conference
I had the incredible opportunity to speak on Inside the Student Experience – A Conversation with UB Student Ambassadors, where I joined fellow ambassadors to discuss our journeys and the impact of student engagement at UB. One of the key takeaways from our discussion was the importance of connection. I shared how meaningful it was to engage with student ambassadors when I first considered UB—it gave me real insight into campus life and made my decision feel more personal. Now, as an ambassador myself, I’m motivated to provide that same sense of belonging to prospective and current students. I’m grateful to have been part of this discussion and to contribute to the ongoing conversation about enhancing student support at University at Buffalo.
