Tiffany Gray

Miami University , Class of 2017
From Merritt Island, Fla.
What could be more inspiring than sharing your passions with the next generation of scientist, policy makers, and eco-guides? Seeing a childs eyes light up just as mine did the first time I discovered a hermit crab in a rocky tide pool is more fulfilling, to me, than anything in the world. With a focus in marine biology and sustainability, I am invested in exciting students in the delight of science and nature. As an outdoor educator for the Cape Eleuthera Institute, I lead 1-2 week long experiential education programs focused on the fundamentals of marine conservation and environmental stewardship. With a state of the art research facility at our fingertips, students participate in real research and get hands-on experience in the field. Career Highlights In 2013, I started the Local Schools Outreach Program at the Cape Eleuthera Institute and Center for Sustainable Development using personal time and relationships to encourage Bahamian schools to visit campus or partner with researchers for class presentations. In that first year, 171 students were served. The program grew tremendously in the second year serving over 726 students. Now in it's third year we have partnered with a local primary school, Deep Creek Primary, to start a communal garden - we call it the "Eating Garden!"
