Majoring in Geography, Minoring in International Studies
Texas State University, Class of 2028
From Cresson, Texas
I am an undergraduate student at Texas State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Geography, with a minor in International Studies. My academic focus centers on international affairs, geopolitical analysis, and the way political, cultural, and geographic factors intersect to shape global security and decision-making. As a Terry Foundation Scholar, I am committed to leadership, ethical service, and academic excellence. Through my coursework and research, I am developing strong analytical, writing, and critical-thinking skills, with a particular interest in political geography, foreign policy, and international security. I value discretion, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding, and I am motivated by opportunities that involve research, analysis, and international engagement in support of public service and national security.

Arrested Cycles of Power: Failed States, the Polybian Cycle, and the Rise of Non-State Violence
This paper applies Polybius's theory of anacyclosis to modern state failure, arguing that Libya, Afghanistan, and Somalia are trapped between the destructive stages of tyranny and anarchy. By examining how foreign intervention, institutional collapse, and internal fragmentation arrest political development, the study shows how ancient political theory remains a powerful framework for understanding contemporary failed states and the global security threats they generate.

Assessing the Legitimacy of Military Intervention: A Nye and Welch Analysis of Ukraine and Taiwan
This essay examines the legitimacy of military interventions in international relations through the framework established by Joseph Nye and David Welch. Using the four criteria of self-defense, humanitarian justification, legal authorization, and national interest, it evaluates Russia’s intervention in Ukraine and the potential for Chinese military action against Taiwan. The analysis concludes that both cases fail to meet the standards of justifiable intervention, representing violations of international law, state sovereignty, and the principles of non-aggression, while highlighting the broader risks such actions pose to global stability and the international order.
