Hello, I am Tyla. I was born and raised in Galax, Va and continue to live and raise my own family in the same area. I graduated from Penn Foster High School and also attended Galax High School in 2008. I took core classes at Wytheville Community College while I decided on what I wanted to major in. I put school on the back burner while I created my family. I was married in 2007 to my best friend, and we have 3 beautiful children. Our sons are 15 and 10, and our daughter is 12. Being a mom was never in my future plans as a teenager, but I cannot imagine life any other way. My kids and husband are my most favorite people to be with. I have worked in food service for over 10 years, I worked as a peer counselor at VDH for 2 years and was a transcriptionist for LMHP's for 2 years. I also currently sub at our local middle and high school. I realized I wanted to pursue a career in Psychology working with teenagers after helping my older children navigate life challenges and realizing that our area is vastly underserved in the mental health community. My Goal is to bring affordable and attainable counseling services geared to individuals 11-21 to our community. I love learning and would continuously take new classes if it were an option. I am always looking for ways to gain valuable knowledge and experience. I believe that knowledge is the most valuable thing you can have in this life other than family. I enjoy history of all types. I enjoy learning about old Appalachian traditions and ways of life and feel a strong tie to the past. I believe it is important to know the past so you can move forward and make better choices. I also love learning about different cultures and religions. I consider myself an Omnist and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I can see truth in most all religions I have studied. I believe if we could put aside differences and put all the pieces together, we would be amazed at what we truly know. I enjoy working with my hands, learning new crafts, creating beauty for my home and family, and pretending that I can garden without killing the plants. I enjoy cooking for those that I love, nourishing a person physically, mentally, and emotionally are skills I have gained in my life. I love being near water. It is soothing to my soul and also helps me to remember that there are bigger things in this world that the problems I may face. I love being outdoors in nature, but I also love to be cozy indoors with a good book as well. I believe journaling is one of the most underrated therapies and have found many answers while I ponder and write about my daily life.
