Yvonne Lee

Member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
From Murfreesboro, Tennessee
My journey from the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, New York, to the halls of academic excellence and professional distinction is a reflection of a life driven by passion, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Born into a family that cherished sports and the arts, my early years were marked by a love for piano and ballet, hinting at the diverse interests that would shape my remarkable career. After attending the High School of Fashion Industries with a focus on Fashion Design, my path took an unexpected turn towards finance and business, thanks to an opportunity at a prestigious brokerage firm on Wall Street. This pivot did not deter me; instead, it fueled my desire to excel in a new arena. While working full-time, I pursued a degree in Finance from Mercy College, balancing my burgeoning career with the demands of family life after welcoming my first child. The years that followed saw my family grow and my career flourish. As a mother of five, I instilled in my children the values of curiosity and ambition, celebrating their successes in diverse fields ranging from entertainment to healthcare. Professionally, I climbed the ranks to become an Associate Director in the compliance department of a financial firm, a role that brought me to Tennessee following a company relocation. However, my academic aspirations remained unfulfilled until I resumed my education at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), majoring in Integrated Studies with a focus on Applied Leadership. This decision not only marked my return to academia but also my dedication to integrating leadership principles into my professional and community engagements. My exemplary academic performance, culminating in a 4.0 GPA, is a testament to my intellectual rigor and discipline. My approach to leadership extends beyond the classroom. At UBS Financial Services Inc., I apply the theories and strategies learned through my studies to lead my team effectively, showcasing the practical value of my academic pursuits. Moreover, my volunteer work at a local hospice facility highlights my commitment to empathy and service, embodying the principles of applied leadership in the most profound ways. The honor of being elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society is a recognition of my academic excellence, leadership, and service. It celebrates my journey from a young girl in Brooklyn to a distinguished member of the academic community, reaffirming my dedication to learning and improvement. As I prepare to attend the awards ceremony on March 22, 2024, I reflect on a path marked by challenges, achievements, and the continuous pursuit of growth. My story is one of resilience, versatility, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in every aspect of my life.
