I am a student at East Stroudsburg University, studying Early Childhood Education and Special Education. I have worked at Camp Speers YMCA for the past two years. I have held the position of Day Camp Counselor during the summer and Outdoor Education Instructor during fall and spring. I have worked with children from a variety of backgrounds, ages ranging from 3-16, even college students. Working with a team of other counselors, I made sure each individual that came to camp had a fun, exciting, and safe experience that allowed them to grow personally and socially. I work as a Resident Advisor during the school year, helping other students throughout the day, dealing with any issues that may arise as I help to enforce school policies and promote a safe and healthy learning and living environment while also helping students grow socially and emotionally through organized social events and challenges.

Resident Advisor at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania

As an RA, I make a significant impact on the lives of the students living on campus. I create a community on my floor by offering a variety of programs to help students learn about themselves and others. as an Ra, I encourage students to make good choices, experience diversity first hand, and grow from challenges. The Resident Advisor (RA) is the Universitys representative in the residence hall. The position has broad responsibilities extending into all aspects of the students physical, social, educational and emotional well-being. The RA helps to correct undesirable behavior, to orient students to University life, to assist in their emotional and academic adjustment, to help develop certain social skills and to make residence hall living a valuable educational supplement to the classroom.

Outdoor Instructor at Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA

I primarily help school groups from the cities and college students enjoy their stay at Camp for a couple of days to a week. I run program areas, providing a safe and encouraging environment for participants. Team-building games and exercises are often performed, as school groups come to help their students develop emotionally, socially, and personally, as well as develop skills in teamwork and leadership. Family Camp is also prevalent as we welcome families from across all over to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The Camp Speers experience is all about "challenge by choice" and personal growth. As a staff member I create an accepting environment for all, and a memorable experience is always created.
